Since September 2022, GoalBlue, in partnership with the Shenzhen Midi Center, has held multiple live "Youyu Charity Concerts" in Longgang, Shenzhen, themed around sustainability and public welfare. These events, aimed at music-loving youth and local citizens, focused on sustainable development and low-carbon living. The series featured a variety of engaging activities, including musical performances, interactive marketplaces, flash mobs, and autograph sessions, offering an immersive music experience that also educated the public on how to practice green and sustainable living in their daily urban lives.
The ocean is Earth's largest ecosystem. It provides oxygen, food, and livelihoods for all of us, supports unimaginable biodiversity, and plays a critical role in human well-being by serving as a direct source of food and energy. Beyond that, the ocean stabilizes the climate and acts as a massive carbon sink, absorbing greenhouse gases. According to the United Nations, approximately 680 million people live in low-lying coastal areas, a number expected to rise to about 1 billion by 2050. However, ocean health is increasingly at risk due to acidification, pollution, illegal fishing, and the loss of habitats and biodiversity.
The latest Food Waste Index Report by the United Nations Environment Programme highlights that in 2019, an estimated 931 million tons of food were wasted globally by households, restaurants, and the food service and retail sectors. This waste accounts for 17% of all food available to consumers and has significant environmental, social, and economic impacts. Studies show that when including waste from all stages of the food supply chain, greenhouse gas emissions related to food waste represent 8-10% of total global emissions.
With global climate challenges becoming more severe, China is increasingly playing a leading role in climate governance. The country has pledged to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, with its 14th Five-Year Plan listing the transformation to a green lifestyle as one of its main goals. Reducing food loss and waste and supporting sustainable fisheries are often overlooked contributors to lowering greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing food waste and consuming sustainable seafood, people can not only save costs and promote sustainability but also help mitigate climate change. These actions are contributions that every individual can make to protect the environment.
The "Youyu Charity Concert" series sought to raise awareness of these issues, encouraging participants to adopt more sustainable behaviors and take responsibility for the environment in their everyday lives.
GoalBlue consistently advocates for a low-carbon lifestyle centered around "smart eating, balanced meals, and zero food waste," as well as "protecting the ocean and supporting sustainable fisheries." These efforts help reduce carbon emissions and address climate change. GoalBlue has collaborated multiple times with Midi, targeting youth and integrating sustainability concepts with the popular culture they enjoy. The goal is to instill positive values, making low-carbon, sustainable environmental practices, and lifestyle choices a part of more people's everyday lives. For the planet and themselves, it encourages individuals to become responsible consumers.
