From October 23 to the end of November 2021, GoalBlue, in collaboration with the Shenzhen Midi Center, held a series of "Blue Ocean" themed charity music parties at Beach No. 4 in Xichong, Dapeng, Shenzhen. Targeting young water sports enthusiasts, the events focused on sustainability and environmental protection, featuring a variety of activities such as surf electro music parties, Zumba dance sessions, charity documentary screenings, and environmental knowledge sharing. Participants enjoyed engaging in music and outdoor activities while learning how to interact harmoniously with nature and continue practicing green living in their daily urban lives.
Each year, approximately 300 marine animals die from ingesting plastic waste. In 1950, humans produced 2.3 million tons of plastic; by 2015, that number had grown to 448 million tons. It is projected that by 2050, plastic production will double again, within a shorter time frame of just 30 years. Large amounts of plastic waste, often carrying or absorbing toxic substances like heavy metals, enter the ocean, harming marine ecosystems. Seafood contaminated with these toxic materials can also affect human health through the food chain. To tackle the issue of single-use plastic products and reduce plastic waste, everyone, from legislators to businesses to individual consumers, plays a role in protecting the environment and our blue oceans.
Through both online and offline platforms, this series of events educated and engaged young participants about the dangers of single-use plastic pollution and unsustainable fishing practices to the ocean. Attendees were encouraged to take their trash with them, practice proper waste sorting, and choose reusable packaging and circular economy products in their daily lives, adopting a low-carbon and eco-friendly lifestyle. The events were met with enthusiastic support, and the original content from the event will be captured and shared in a charity micro-documentary.
The "Blue Ocean Charity Music Party" series was part of the "Beautiful Dapeng Action Plan - 2020 Dapeng Peninsula Ecological Civilization Construction Public Welfare Fund Project" and was free to the public. The event was guided by the Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau of Dapeng New District, hosted by the Shenzhen Social Welfare Foundation and Dapeng Peninsula Ecological Civilization Construction Public Welfare Fund, and organized by the Shenzhen GoalBlue Low-Carbon Development Promotion Center and Shenzhen Midi Center.
