"Dream of Whales, Blue Ocean" Charity Concert and Ocean Adventure Summer Camp Concludes Successfully
On July 25th, the 2021 "Dream of Whales, Blue Ocean" Beach Charity Concert and "Ocean Adventure Summer Camp - Think Blue Outdoor Camp" concluded successfully in Shenzhen. Co-hosted by Shenzhen Midi Center and GoalBlue, the event centered on sustainability and environmental protection themes, offering a rich array of activities focused on ocean conservation, environmental exploration, and music education. The aim was to encourage children to learn through music and outdoor experiences, appreciate nature's beauty, and understand how to interact harmoniously with the environment while practicing green living in urban life.
On July 24th, the "Ocean Adventure Summer Camp - Think Blue Outdoor Camp" children and the Green Bus Band performed a public charity concert on the beach of Dapeng Dongchong in Shenzhen. This concert, dedicated to ocean conservation, was also a warm welcome to a recently spotted Bryde's whale in Dapeng Bay, affectionately named "Xiaobu." The children performed original music, sharing their dreams of the ocean, while the Green Bus Band expressed their love for the sea through soothing melodies.
During the concert, educational videos on ocean conservation were shown to the public, raising awareness about the harm caused by single-use plastics and unsustainable fishing practices. The event encouraged visitors to Dapeng to take their trash with them, practice proper waste sorting, and choose reusable packaging and circular economy products to embrace a low-carbon, green lifestyle. The event was met with enthusiastic support from the audience, and the original performances will be captured and shared in a charity music video.
In addition to music lessons, the "Ocean Adventure Summer Camp" featured a special "Protect the Blue" series of ocean environment education courses. These courses provided children with a systematic understanding of the ocean's natural wonders, fostering their awareness of the importance of marine conservation and inspiring a sense of responsibility. The outdoor camp activities included fun and educational experiences, such as tidal pooling and beach cleaning, allowing children to engage in hands-on nature science lessons.
The campers also visited a land-based whale observation station to learn about the basic methods used by wildlife observers and gain insights into the recent activities of "Xiaobu," the Bryde's whale in Shenzhen's coastal waters. They participated in sustainable aquaculture workshops, learning about biodiversity and sustainable seafood practices. The children were educated on the harmful effects of single-use plastics on the environment and learned about Shenzhen's waste sorting policies. At the end of the program, each child received an eco-friendly gift made from recycled plastic bottles.
This charity concert and summer camp offered an unforgettable experience for every participant, instilling a lasting appreciation for nature and the importance of sustainable living. We hope that these children, at different stages of their lives, will continue to practice eco-friendly habits and contribute to the protection of our blue planet.
